Rodents are Everywhere in Austin Texas!

Hello, this is Damian again, I want to welcome you to the EvoFoam Pest Control podcast today. Today I want to talk to you all about rodents and specifically the roof rat. You know, roof rats have been an issue for many, many years, of course, they traditionally had been more of a coastal tropical area type problem. And I can recall years ago, as a young technician, every year about this time, we would, we’d all have training or companies would train us on preparation of the wintertime, for when you know, the roof rat activity would spike. If you recall, about 10 years ago, or so, we had a really bad drought in the Texas and throughout Texas. And a lot of those coastal rats moved inland. Okay, and what what they became was a term that we use as commensal meaning living amongst us, sharing our habitats going after our food, and it can become a very, you know, bad situation and very difficult to get rid of, you know, lucky. Luckily, you know, lucky for you, you know, a homeowner or business owner, you have companies like us that are very well versed in how to control and how to prevent and get rid of these types of issues. And the one thing that I would say that’s most important is have a reoccurring pest service at your home. You even if you’re not having current rodent issues, a lot of times when we’re out doing your regular pest treatments, you know, whether that’s on a bi monthly or quarterly or monthly protocol, schedule, what have you, we can recognize some issues that are happening outside your home finding droppings and non signs, you know, things that can alert us that you have some activity going on, on your home, outside in the yard, or possibly then they may have unfortunately already gotten into your attic. And those are some you know, a lot of times we can, we can recognize that and then help prevent problems from getting much worse or prevent them from even really getting becoming an issue to begin with. And what we do is putting on a rodent program as well as as your pest control. And we have some rodent stations, bait stations that we put around the outside of the home to help control the populations on the exterior of the property and prevent them from getting inside. There’s some things that need to be done as well. Making sure you don’t have a lot of clutter in your yard that’s going to attract into the first place is a good thing. If you have trees or branches that overhang or touch your structure you want to cut that back and they say about about three to four feet from the structure because they actually can they actually can jump pretty good ways at least they say about two to three feet so having that really cut back as much as possible I recommend before five feet away from the home sometimes you’re not going to want to sacrifice your trees that much and take away the shade of your home and I get that but additionally with things that can be done is exclusion and exclusion what that term means that because you know we always referred to in the industry as exclusion because we know w

Roof returns make sure you don’t have any holes in your soffit the corners of your garage is very important to have sealed up and then if you have larger weak holes which are the holes and then in the other brick that goes into those pockets there of your home making sure that any larger holes are sealed up as well can definitely prevent roof rats from getting in even the smaller ones will help prevent any mice issues. mice have not always not really traditionally been a big problem in this area. Typically we’re dealing with roof rats more than anything. You know it’s the reason why I’m talking about roof rats specifically today. But you know they can they get into a structure they breed like crazy the population can spike in a very short amount of time. You know, if you have a couple of rats that move in, they have some babies they can they’re their gestation period and breeding cycle is is very quick. And even though smallest, you know a bit of activity can become a big problem in a very short amount of time talking about you just in a couple months, you can have a much worse issue going on. So it’s Very important, there’s a lot of other things you know, I always say it’s, it’s a multitude, you know, other small things that you do to accomplish any type of goal. So we’re, we’re always going to do a very thorough inspection. Matter of fact, we do a 58 point inspection analysis of your home and property for you inside and out, up and down. So you know, and we do that free of charge, it doesn’t cost you anything to give us a call to, you know, have us come on your property and evaluate the situation and make some good recommendations and ensure that you’re not gonna have the, you know, prevent the issue from ever occurring. Because the worst thing that you ever want is to be sitting there having a movie night with your family, and hearing some scratching and movement and up in your Acura inside your walls, or getting woken up in the middle of the night or not being able to fall asleep because you’re laying in bed, here in a party going on above your head. That’s that’s not never a fun scenario. So I encourage you, give us a call today, we’d be happy to come on out and perform a free inspection give you a quote, evil phone Pest Control 512582998. Thankshat we’re talking about but you may not know what we’re talking about. And what exclusion means is merely sealing up the home making sure that you don’t have any openings in a gap see, a roofrack only needs a half inch of an opening in order to be able to enter a structure so it’s very important that even though some you know that’s a small opening, having having your home sealed up really well.
